"For dinner? Words ...

As a graduate of Social Sciences, have always been the concern of what talents I can add to a community self-sufficient in case of a global catastrophe (read any apocalyptic movie premise.) In general my skills have to do with a. words, b. technology, or c. intangible ... If we face a world where we should plant, harvest, build and create basic consumer everything, seriously, why should I serve? This is where I regret not have listened to my mother in the medical career or otherwise, at least pay attention to my sister when I was talking about the garden he had in the backyard.

This article reawakened me worry. And really, I think it is still time to learn a task that, given a possible apocalyptic situation, Therefore, allowing me to plant potatoes, not words. (On second thought, learn how to kill zombies would not be a bad idea either ...) Update

.- Very well, "Barber" does not qualify as a first-class talent in a post-apocalyptic world. But fighting the zombies, you always need a good cut ("Milla Jojovich, anyone?).

The network: a social service? Prohibited

Much has been said about the importance of social media as a vehicle to report immediately and often, first hand, events that the mainstream media have no access second to second ... Cristian is a person who is constantly pointing out key moments in which, for example, Twitter is there first. However, I believe that unlike previous occasions, the Iranian elections a few days ago and the subsequent street demonstrations and events whose images have been distributed by Flicker, Twitter and Facebook, among others, has become a front to fight for those who believe the Internet is the tool most important social empowerment in the world today. Why?

First, display (to the point of ridicule) the use of large media corporations are the first-hand information. The mainstream media in order to ensure the audience, play what you or I do every day: sit down at the computer and tell. Here, the media have lost (at least those using the computer often), why sit and watch CNN shows me pages of Facebook and Twitter messages when I can do it myself, using my computer, browsing my own pace and without being constrained by a linear communication one-way? Jon Stewart covers the news. I recommend it but he said, is The Daily Show and not politically correct. However, I think that puts your finger in the wound: View Video .

Second, states unequivocally as social media allow the rise of movements outside the status quo that its social, interactive systems are a threat that governments are already trying to control. Iran may is the latest example, but China (see video at minute 6:53) and Italy (in Italian , English) have important steps to censor, silence and control what is said and what is not said in Intenert. These are just 3 examples, but more and as always, just a search in a browser to find them easily.

And this is precisely the issue ... Just type a sentence only to have information. The discussion here is not whether the information is accurate or not. The important thing is that it exists. And I believe, fervently, that users have the right to create, share and access information, because social capital is priceless (or at least he should not have). However, we must remember that as a right, this means homework. First, the information is truthful, accurate and verifiable, but more importantly that violates the human rights principles. And second, we are responsible consumers. Us to report information that is not true, we do our part (We are not just passive consumers) and above all, we help new users literacy and our children to use and Internet use is responsible and as such, become a social service, where my grain of sand, Although mediated by a computer, at least there.

Milani, Denise Wikipedia

The effect of road collapse after the lifting of restrictions on capital income to the end-plate looks like rows of people in supermarkets buying 8 liters of liquor and 52 beers for Thursday and Friday of Holy Week, two days in which the law does not sell alcohol ... And although there is no special reason for that to get drunk week, people go to the supermarket on Wednesday night and buy a stock like they have to prepare to enter a bunker after the fall of an atomic bomb. This is typical of the Costa Rican ... When something is forbidden, although in normal circumstances would not do, we are first in line. Conversely, when something is forbidden it becomes "legal", we must do so immediately. Probably not many people took the car because they needed it, but simply because "they could."

Which leads me to think ... for the next elections, should not tell people that is prohibited from voting? I'm sure if so, at the time the polls are opened, they would have thousands of people waiting to "do the right value." But now, as voting "can be" the most Ticos lazy and although we are able to complain about the government that chose other, prefer to stay by taking the liquor we have stored in the hold from the previous Easter.
