Mexico has its own 'Arizona'

One of the most common arguments of the proponents of anti-immigrant legislation in Arizona is that the state is not doing something very different from what Mexico Central do with the undocumented, or what the Latin American countries with their own illegal immigrants. It is a very powerful argument, and not entirely unreasonable.

From a strictly legal point of view, is a misleading statement, because the new Arizona law could promote racial discrimination, while the Mexican law is more protective of the rights of immigrants. But in real life, Mexico tolerate the mistreatment of Central and South American illegal immigrants as much or more than what Arizona has done so far.

Let's start by law. A recent Washington Times article, entitled "The Laws of Mexico Against Illegals are more severe than in Arizona, "stated that" under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and try to re-enter the country may be sentenced to 10 years in prison. "

The article quoted Republican Texas Congressman Ted Poe, claiming that criticism of the Government of Mexico to Arizona law are "hypocrites" because Mexico's immigration laws are "more severe than the United States."

During his visit to Wa-shington last week, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, told CNN that "That used to be true, but not anymore." Calderon said that Mexico's immigration law was amended in 2008, and all the harsh penalties imposed on illegal immigrants were removed.

As explained by Mexican officials, there are two major differences between the current Mexican law and the law of Arizona:

First, being an illegal immigrant in Mexico is not a felony, even a misdemeanor, but an administrative offense. This means that Mexico, unlike what happens in Arizona, no one can be jailed for violating immigration laws.

Those who violate these rules must pay a fine, and can only be deported if stopped by immigration officials.

Second, the Mexican police can not ask about immigration status of a person, even if that person has been arrested for other reasons. Mexican police should only notify immigration authorities when immigrants voluntarily declare that, for example, are illegally in the country heading towards the U.S..

comparison, Arizona law requires the police ask for immigration papers to people who stopped for any other valid reason, including traffic offenses.

Advocates of Arizona state law that state is much more generous to illegal immigrants Mexico.

"In Mexico, the Government does not give them food stamps, or educational services, or emergency medical services to those without immigration documents," says George W. Grayson, a professor at the College of William and Mary.

Mexican officials and many human rights activists refuted this claim, but accept that Central American immigrants in Mexico are often extorted by police officers linked to human traffickers.

A report by April 28, Amnesty International says the mistreatment of Central American immigrants in Mexico has become "a human rights crisis."

According to the report, immigrant kidnappings for ransom reached a record high last year, with almost 10 000 immigrants were held hostage for more than six months. Almost half the victims interviewed said that public officials were involved in kidnappings.

addition, about 60 percent of immigrant women and girls suffer sexual violence, the report said.

"The problem of the Arizona law is that it promotes racism," said Jose Miguel Vivanco, director of the Americas of the group Human Rights Watch. "In Mexico there is no similar legislation, but there is a factual situation in which immigrants are victims of all kinds of abuse by the local police linked to gangs, which operate with total impunity. "

My opinion: I agree. Arizona just pass a law regrettable that opens the door to racial discrimination, while Mexico has passed a law much better, but in practice does not do much to eradicate the illegal police abuse.
Mexico
Abuses against Central American immigrants should not be a valid excuse to justify laws like Arizona. And the abuses of the law of Arizona should not be an excuse for Mexico to continue tolerating the abuse of police against illegal immigrants. Both are wrong, and should be denounced.

A whole new idea, Mahound, is asked two questions. The first, while still weak, WHAT KIND OF IDEA ARE YOU? Are you the kind that compromises or enters, is molded into society, find a good position and try to survive, or you're the kind of notion crossed resentenced and beast, intractable and rigid prefer split before bowing to the wind? The kind of idea that almost invariably, ninety-nine times out of hundred, is crushed, but which a hundred, you change the world?
"What is the second question?" Gibreel asked aloud.
Before answering the first.

[...] And now, Mahound, on his return to Jahili, it's time to the second question: How do you behave when you beat?

[Taken from 'The Satanic Verses' by Salman Rushdie]

much this short novel tells the adventures and misadventures that happen to the divine message from the gods or goddesses or communicate this message to your messenger angel, the angel the prophet, the prophet to write until he reaches the people.

In this communication process the message is transformed into what is known as the "phone decomposed, where Shaitan involved at all levels, confusing the angel, the prophet and the scribe. Shaytaan may be passed by the messenger angel against the prophet, or Sahita can attack the memory of the prophet and may even be tempted to write for you write your message as you please. The confusion is such that ultimately the divine verses are so demonized that it is virtually impossible to find out what part of the message is the divine and which part is the satanic, or even whether some part of the received message has some "divine truth". The people, the great mass obedient, gets the message, whatever it is, and believe it blindly, unable see if it is right or not, because people would never dare to question the message, the dogma of faith by definition is blind.

And that is the great foundation of the great religions that now dominate the world. Personally

cause me very tenderly chiefs of fundamentalist religions putting a price on Rushdie's head for daring to write a novel with all this gossip theology. Innocent people who believe in God, the messenger angel, the prophet, Shaitan and obvious, in the mentioned message.
